We are proud to be a 'silver' RRSA school
We are proud and delighted to share that Egremont Primary has recently achieved the SILVER level ‘Rights Respecting School Award’.
The RRSA award is recognised and moderated by UNICEF. To achieve the award, the pupils and teachers had to show how we are global citizens and support children by following the United Nations Conventions of the Rights of Children (UNCRC). The children learnt about their ‘Rights’ and have embedded this in our daily school life. Teachers had to link learning to ‘Rights’ and used the language of the UNCRC to support interactions and routines.
The school was moderated by an external advisor who came to tour the environment, look at examples of children’s work and interviewed a range of children and staff.
He commented that the he was impressed by the variety of work the children had produced during the project and that it was lovely to see the powerful language of the UNCRC being used by the children themselves.
Mrs Weimann, who helped to oversee the project, commented “It is great that the children are aware and understand that they have ‘Rights’ as we know that this will support them to grow up to be respectful, considerate citizens.”
We are now looking to achieve the GOLD level award.
