Maths
At Egremont Primary School, we aim to inspire every pupil—whatever their starting point—to reach their full academic potential. We recognise that mathematics is at the heart of so many aspects of everyday life, and we want our children to approach it with confidence, curiosity, and enjoyment.
Through our carefully planned maths curriculum, we strive to:
Promote enjoyment through practical activities, problem-solving, and discussion, helping children develop a lifelong love of mathematics.
Encourage drive and ambition, ensuring every child believes they can achieve and succeed in maths.
Equip children with a problem-solving toolkit, giving them transferable skills to approach challenges creatively and with resilience.
Develop understanding of information, enabling pupils to interpret, present, and use data in meaningful ways.
Secure fluency in key skills, so that all children can use maths confidently and successfully in school and in their everyday lives.
Our approach ensures that children leave Egremont Primary with a strong foundation in mathematics, ready to use their skills both in the classroom and beyond.
At our school, we follow the White Rose Maths Hub scheme of learning, which provides a carefully structured and progressive curriculum to ensure all pupils develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. This is supplemented by the Mastering Number programme, which is delivered across the school to strengthen fluency, number sense, and confidence in working with numbers. As a school, we are also actively involved with the Maths Hub, giving us access to the latest research, training, and collaborative opportunities with other schools. We are fully committed to the mastery approach, which means we aim for all children to move through the curriculum at broadly the same pace, securing a solid understanding before progressing. Lessons are designed to promote fluency, reasoning, and problem solving, ensuring children not only develop strong calculation skills but also the ability to apply their knowledge in a wide range of contexts. Our approach ensures that pupils build resilience, enjoy success, and see themselves as confident mathematicians.
